From the seals to the giraffes Miles was just open mouthed and in awe of the animals. That is until we got to the chimps. They went crazy. Pounding fits, fighting and running all over the yard. Miles started to get freaked out so we moved on to the next.
Miles slept like a rock that night (15 1/2 hours) so maybe we will be hitting the Zoo again real soon!

Beautiful pics of the LA Zoo. It looks like the orangutan Eloise (nearly 41) was enjoying your son's visit. As in the wild, the LA Zoo's chimpanzee males continually struggle for dominance. So, they will often make "displays" or even fight for the dominant position. This is part of their normal social activity ... and a good reason to never have them as a pet. But, they are definitely fascinating to look at ... but maybe not for the little guy, yet. Anyway, I'm not in LA currently, and so it was nice to stop by and see your zoo pics. They are wonderful.
